First weekend in April meant the two last games of the regular season for our boys. On Saturday, Lughnasa HC provided the opposition. The match between first and second in the league provided little excitement. Lughnasa HC with lots of young players could not stand the onslaught of experienced and powerful DI men. It truly was men vs boys encounter. DI HC played well from the start and even without half a team peeled of early and kept the margin throughout. Late in the game The Internationals relaxed a bit and allowed the opponents few easy scores, so 24 – 34 margin could have been even higher. Special mention goes to T. Grassl who stepped in between the posts as our goalies were unavailable. Overall good performance both defensively and in attack.

Unfortunately DCU could not compete on Sunday citing technical difficulties. This means that DI HC is the leagues first finalist. Lughnasa secures first semi spot and next weekend will give us second semifinal participant. UCD and Astra HC are on the same points with one match to play. Astra has superior goal difference so a win would guarantee them a second semi spot. UCD hope to beat DCU and a favor from Lughnasa. Finally a bit of excitement in Irish handball.
