Dublin International and Lughnasa renewed their rivalry in a fair and hard fought game. Before the game, both teams had to accomodate several high profile players missing, with D.I. missing; Magnus Clarke, Marko Brevac, Michael Vinayagam, Thomas Grassl and Romaric Balaille.
Lughnasa started the match best, taking advantage of some lacks defending by D.I. They opened up an early lead and looked the more likely team. However, after Dublin International’s defence sorted out their defensive problems, D.I. regained their composure and started to pull away, inspired by Tomas Martinonis and Alex Markovic. The duo took advantage of holes the Lughnasa defence, brough by some excellent passing and combinations. At half time, D.I. lead convincingly.
The second half opened much like the first with Lughnasa gaining the early initative, shutting D.I. out for a second half opening score of 7 -1 and brought them within touching distance of the lead. However, D.I. back came strongly with the help of some strong finishing from Hichem Sefroun and Dragos Rudisteau, both scoring 4 goals each, and great defending as a unit. D.I. gradually pulled away and at the final whistle, D.I. had ensured they took the match 39 – 29.
Dublin International would like to thank Lughnasa for inviting us to play this friendly and help D.I. prepare for their important Anglo Irish Cup match on Saturday the 5th.
